How To Clean Your Homes Most Touched Areas

If you’re looking for an efficient cleaning task that will have a significant impact in a short amount of time, cleaning your home’s most touched or high-touched areas is a great place to start. If someone has been sick in your home, this is an excellent cleaning task to tackle. I find that with or without someone being sick, cleaning those most-touched areas is also a perfect task for seasonal cleaning.

I start a list of all the most-touched areas and batch them together. I usually start with the door knobs and then move on to clean light switches and switch plates. After that, I clean all the kitchen cabinet handles and appliance handles. This system ensures I don't miss anything and keeps me on task.

MOST TOUCHED AREAS:

  1. Light switches and switch plates
  2. Door knobs
  3. Clean your doors
  4. Kitchen appliance handles (microvwave, fridge, dishwasher, oven)
  5. Clean your appliance fronts
  6. Telephones (landlines + cell phones)
  7. Staircase railings
  8. Kitchen cabinets and drawer handles
  9. Cabinet and drawer handles in bathroom(s)
  10. TV remotes & game controllers

How To Clean

Generally all you will need is an all-purpose cleaner and a microfiber cloth. All-purpose cleaners can be sprayed directly on your microfiber cloth. After spraying on the cloth wipe the area clean.

Here is an all-purpose cleaning spray receipe.

  1. 1 1/4 cups water
  2. 1/2 cup white vinegar
  3. 10 drops of your favorite essential oil

Mix all ingridents in a spray bottle, spray liberally on cleaning cloth and wipe clean.

Door Knobs + Pulls, Light Switches, Remotes

When cleaning areas like game controllers, tv remotes, door knobs and light switches, my system is to pour a little rubbing alcohol on a cleaning cloth and wipe. This will kill germs and clean the area easily.

Doors and Cabinets

When I clean cabinets & doors I prefer to mix up a little cabinet door cleaner. Here is a simple recipe will clean most cabinets.

Cupboard + Cabinet Cleaner

  1. 8 cups warm water
  2. 2 tablespoons liquid dish soap
  3. 3 drops lemon essential oil

Mix all ingredients in a bowl or bucket. Work from the top left corner and scrub your way down to the right corner using a microfiber cloth or towel. Be sure to wring out your cloth frequently and well.
